Karmunity

Forging Home

We’re a collective currently based in Cambridge UK, with allies across the country and abroad who have come together to explore how the built environment and the natural world can be balanced to support a rich community.

Since 2018 we have been actively bringing our people together and exploring different ways of co-living. We are now working together to bring our projects to a wider audience as well as creating a more balanced home for our growing families.

Current Projects

Eco and Community Retrofitting

We feel UK developers aren’t focussing enough on creating environmentally conscious homes which promote community living.

We’ve just finished retrofitting our third multi-space home which is now available for let: houseshare and studio apartment. We continue to develop our ecological credentials at our suburban ‘proto-community’.

Skill Sharing and Community Cultivation

We bring people together to promote and create sustainable long lasting communities.

Currently we’re focussing on hosting skill-sharing days, allowing people to become more resilient in a changing economy.

Rewilding and Nature Connection

We’re currently searching for land to rewild and steward, as well as searching for our ultimate land-based community site in various potential locations around the UK.

We hope to bring people back to nature through gentle nature focussed events, land management skill sharing, forest schools and celebrating the seasons whilst treading lightly on the land.

Who We Are

Some of our core team

Dorka Nemes

Dorka is a trained primary school teacher and forest school leader, passionate about reconnecting people with nature and playing in the outdoors. Having completed training in Wilderness Therapeutic Approaches, she is also interested in supporting mental wellbeing using the power of the natural world. When she’s not frolicking around in the woods, she can be found on the dancefloor, swing dancing or more recently looking after her woodland gremlin, Safi.

Cameron Ford

Cutting his teeth on modern new-builds and renovation, Cameron wanted to be part of building the change that is needed for a healthy planet while meeting the need for better housing. Outside of his work, he’s growing vegetables, learning about natural building and permaculture, and spending time in woodlands. It is his ambition to prove that construction can be done differently. Loving being newly father to Safi.

Matthew Howard

Committed to scaling better ways of being : by day, Matt is Engineering Lead at a pioneering startup recovering carbon from the atmosphere. At all other times, he looks to integrate being an elected Green; a Buddhist; a lover of forest, sea, mountains; and finding novel ways to convert financial inequity into communal wealth. Through entrepreneurial effort, he believes we can deliver a ways of living which are more desirable for everyone at a lower cost.

Guy Jacobs

A Cambridge Associate Professor in Human Evolutionary Genetics and Bioinformatics, Guy is also an amateur mycologist, wild camper and is about to have his first child.

Camilla Halford

With a web3 start-up exploring ways of decentralising the internet, Camilla is a part-time foster parent, enjoys whittling, green wood work and has convened ‘Commune Club’.

Stephen Parkins

Architect and master builder – there is little Steve cannot turn his hand to. He has built numerous homes from scratch and overseen renovations, extensions and new-builds alike.

“I am missing not building anything! I have got the bug. Let me go and fix the shower rail right now.”
